I played a central role in developing a complex, multidisciplinary tender response, bringing together technical expertise from across my client’s business and translating it into clear and compelling content. Working to demanding deadlines, I balanced effective engagement with busy engineering specialists against the need for disciplined writing and review time so the submission exceeded National Grid’s evaluation criteria.
I worked closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) to draw out their technical knowledge, understand the proposed delivery approaches and translate complex engineering information into clear, compelling responses. I took a structured approach to engaging specialists, making the best use of their often-limited availability while ensuring I had sufficient time to develop, refine and review the content.
My writing focused on communicating value rather than simply describing processes and capabilities. I challenged information where necessary, identified opportunities to strengthen the narrative and structured responses to make key messages accessible, persuasive and easy to evaluate.
The breadth of technical subjects and the demands on specialist resources required careful co-ordination. I balanced my writing and development time with engineers’ and other contributors’ availability, ensuring my requests for information were focused, timely and proportionate.
A further challenge was maintaining focus on what mattered most to National Grid, looking beyond technical detail to understand the evaluation criteria, identify areas of greatest importance and ensure I emphasised them.
The tender was successful, leading my client to secure a place on the £6bn framework.
